How did TriCats change your life?
Join TriCats, it will change your life!
TriCats changed my life by allowing me to get to know some super motivated people while having fun and getting in shape. Now I can go to almost every continent and have a place to stay for free.
Influenced me to wear a speedo while running on the mall for a race during the sorority football game , swim in the fountain at old main, ride my bike to Mexico and back, go to Spain , race in portland, and alabama, spain, La Jolla Rough Water Swim, design uniforms, design tshirts, learn photography, four peaks in four days, design websites, get up super early after staying out super late, help people, and write songs.
TriCats helped me go from couch-potato to triathlete, in a few months. With no real experience in any of the sports, I found a group of friends willing to help me learn how to swim, bike, and run, and then do all three in the same race. TriCats is also a group of friends who help motivate me to show-up to workouts.
TriCats helped me get in shape, and triathlon is a sport that I can keep doing the rest of my life - honestly, how many 70 year-olds do you see on the football field? ;-)
Oh, and I haven't gone the speedo route like Chris, but a year ago I'd have laughed if you suggested I'd be running around Ried Park in a lycra swim jammer... which I did this summer, six times.
Changed all of my perceptions of what I could do physically and mentally. I regularly do workouts now that I never thought I could finish a year ago, and look forward to them and continually pushing the limits! The diversity of training is awesome, and I am injury-free instead of having constant aches from distance running alone. Oh, and lost 30 pounds :)
As a "retired" high school baseball player TriCats has given me a new sport/challenge to throw myself into within a team made up of a ton of great people. The diversity of the team is incredible, from first-year undergrads to us old graduate students, and the entire spectrum of athletic experience. TriCats has already been one of my most rewarding collegiate adventures, and I have been here a while...
Hi sorry to interrupt but I wasn't allowed to create a forum topic so I will just post it here. I am an incoming freshman at the university and I am from Chicago. Can I really join even if I don't have any experience with triathlons? I am moving in on the 21st to Tucson so I was wondering where I should go to join and when. Thanks a lot for your time; I'm so excited for this.
Josh,
I joined with no experience either. I had a 20 year old bike that cost $150 and that's all I needed. You don't even need a bike when you first start if you don't want to spend the money. This group of people is great at welcoming new members and we have three different workouts in each sport for the different skill levels. For example, my only background sport was soccer, so I'm a red (fastest group) runner and a blue (slowest) swimmer.
Just come to the first meeting on September 8th and we have a trial period where you can come to the workouts for free and see if it's something that you're going to enjoy (I'm sure you will).
Back on subject: Tricats has made me look forward to wearing spandex and sitting on a bike for hours on end and then getting off and going for a run (still wearing spandex). It's helped me to become better at time management and to start taking care of myself better. Heck, I think it even helped me get my job this summer. There are too many things to list, but, overall, the sport has made me a better person and given me a new hobby that I can do for the rest of my life.
Courtney, you will not be alone as a grad student. There are a bunch of us...yes you will be busy. You would be busy even without triathlon, but you probably know this :). For me anyway, it brings balance--time to clear your mind and focus on something other than your research, class, etc.
god damn this team is awesome. It never ceases to amaze.
I joined tricats as an unathletic 250 pounder. the team took me in. You will learn alot about yourself with an great group of movers and shakers. Its been three semesters and 50 pounds later, I just did my first half ironman. you are welcome. triathlon is a life style.
just dont talk to chris green after your first practice. jk. hes a great genuine guy.
Tricats has changed my life in every way. It has changed who I hang out with, what I work for, when I schedule everything, where I go for vacations, and why I get out of bed in the morning.
I just can't wait to get back into it and see all of you guys again.
TriCats has turned me into a morning person, introduced me to endurance sports that I can continue to train in my whole life, given me a great group of new friends, allowed me to compete in athletics for my school, tested my physical and mental limits, drained my bank account and converted three of my dresser drawers to spandex/workout clothes.
I LOVE TriCats!
