Hey I hope everyone's summer is going well. Congrats to everyone who raced at Mountain Man this past weekend, it sounds like an amazing tri. I was curious who, if anyone, has signed up for La Jolla Rough Water so far? I know there was some interest from several people on the team about doing it this year and I was thinking about making my travel arrangements pretty soon but I wanted to check and see what other people had planned before I make any reservations. Oh and if you haven't thought about doing it, I suggest that you do the race its one of the most fun, and rewarding swimming events that I have ever done and there are usually some pretty bad ass swimmers out there (like Larsen Jenson and other Olympians/World Record holders) that you get to rub elbows with and, if your in their age group, race against. The swim is on September 7, so there is still time to get ready for it too!!
La Jolla Roughwater
I think Andy is signed up for the Gatorman, which is a 3 mile ocean roughwater swim that I can only convice myself to do if I think about all of the pressure in life and then about how it would be ok if all of that pressure were to suddenly dissappear.
Meaning I would have to not be afraid to die.
I guess I am down dude, I have been setting some pretty big goals lately so if I don't have to fulfill them that would be ok with me.
i'm signed up for the 1 mile swim. This will be SO sick. Will we have a place to stay for those going who might live in the area, or should i start looking for other possibilities outside of the team??? SOOOO excited to see ya'll in a few weeks!
Cheers
I was looking into hotels they are pretty expensive in the area (~$350/night), but if we get a couple miles out of La Jolla, they are pretty economical (~$60/night for a double occupancy). Another option is camping, that's how I've done it in the past. I remember there being a camp ground in Encinitas on the beach; I called my old swim coach to find out the name, and once I have it I'll check on their availability. If the camp ground is open is that something people would be interested in?
The 3-mile Gatorman was the crown jewel of my racing season last year. Anyone making the trip out to LJRW should seriously think about going the extra 2 miles. I had never swam in the ocean, my longest swimming distance was 1.2 miles prior to last year's gatorman, and I had just started to "swim" (more like float) that March. Basically, the race turns you into a badass in less than 2 hours.
Also, the biggest benefit of doing the 3-miler is the extra amount of vaseline that Andy Suter will put all over your body.
