So I want to get back in time for the feast/have enough energy to stay awake through it.. therefore I will be driving part of the way out. Figure ride 20mi, climb the peak and then head back. Guess that's probably more like a decent ride but whatever.
Semi Epic Ride..?
wait... what day is this what time and where... i feel like i missed some info somewhere?? Anyway Id like to ride... as I cant run this weekend due to a dumb ass move I pulled that involved falling on the side of my foot and making it painful to walk and stuff... riding might be do-able though...
here's a link with directions to kitt peak.. i'm thinking find someplace to park once we hit the air field. meet at the flagpole at 7a to say good luck to the century+ riders. i can carry one bike and one person.

keep in mind that map is NOT to scale. you can map it on maps.yahoo.com and use "kitt peak national observatory, az" as the destination.
I would suggest parking near Three Points and riding from there (~48 miles round-trip vs. 64 from Ryan Airfield). There is a large gas station on the SE corner of hwy 85 and 86 in three points that would work as a parking location. I would mention to the people inside (while you buy some stuff) that your cars will be out there for a few hours.
The only water stop between three points and kitt peak is a small gas station on the north side of ajo. Maybe around halfway?
The shop at Kitt Peak does not have much in the way of food. I would carry whatever solid food you want. There is also a $10 minimum for credit cards. They have drinks and stuff, but it's no Summerhaven.
Oh, and the ride is awesome! I'm probably riding from campus, but hope to see you guys out there!
kyle and nick...flagpole at 7am (as well as all other semi-epic riders). let's just be crazy and do the 64 miler. kyle, you going to get a large jug of water or something? or we can stop along the way maybe and purchase one/several.
Erika, 200-300 cal. per hour. You need something more than just gels. I recommend you go and buy something called "Sustained Energy" or Perpetuem (trisports has some) and Bargain Basement Bikes might. basically you can create a multi-hour bottle that will last...well...multiple hours based on the number of scoops of powder you mix in the bottle. this stuff has high carbs, protein, and little/some fat to keep you going for the long haul. i used sustained energy for the lemmon ride and felt great (eating a big breakfast helps me too).
recap for Semi-Epic 64mi of awesomeness..
Eat good and big breakfast
Meet 7am Flagpole (Erika, I will pick you up)
I will definitely have extra water, at least 3 gallons in the Jeep.
I'm going to ride with a camel back (H20) because I get thirsty and it's not a race
2 bottles with "the stuff plants crave" (electrolytes if you don't get the reference)
3 gels for sure plus extra and cliff bars in the pack
Sunscreen!
CO2 and tubes
Hope the ride was awesome!! My foot is still semi balloon sized and kinda purple so I didnt think putting it in my bike shoe and pounding it for 3-4 hours would speed recovery... sad sad day. but anyway hope ya'll had a great ride and see you tonight!!
