Ok, so you joined the team and want to get as much out of TriCats as possible. You know that the social aspect of a team can be more rewarding than the actual training and racing, but you don't know what you can do to make people like you and accept you onto "their team." Here are a couple of things that you can do to raise your stock in the team, and make it look like you are one of the experienced TriCats who command all of that admiration from all of the brand new joining members (until they find out that we are just people too).
Suggestion #1
Use your real name as a username, it makes people feel like they are talking to actual people. I would suggest that you copy this format ( Firstname Lastname.) Simple but awesomely effective.
Suggestion #2
Use a picture of your face as your Avatar, you are not as ugly as you think, after all, you are a triathlete, and we are sexy. This helps people to put a face to a name, therefore lessening the intimidation factor. This also makes it easier for our coaches to figure out who you are if you are asking a question. They can be overwhelmed with all of the new members each semester.
Suggestion #3
Post a comment on the forum once in a while, I am sure that if it is positive people won't think that you are a jackass, or a loser.
Suggestion #4
Never assume that people don't like you just because they haven\'t talked to you yet, first year members are notorious for being shy. You should have seen Krystle Potter, and Kyle Watson their first year, or me for that matter. Introduce yourself to people, stand closer to the group when they are having discussions before or after practice. You have to remember that we really do want you there. One of the most rewarding things about being a member of this club is helping people fall in love with this sport.
