Dawn to Dusk Endurance Bike Race

Hey guys!

This great endurance mountain bike race is going down on September 6th.  The course is the Pemberton Trail at McDowell Mountain Park just outside of Phoenix, and I can guarantee that anyone who's talked to me about mountain biking has already heard me rave about how much I love this trail.  (One loop is just over 16 miles of fast, fun, roller-coster single-track through gorgeous desert with just enough climbing and technical stuff to keep you excited... it will be a breeze to anyone who's use to riding Tucson trails.)

Basically, the idea of the Dawn to Dusk race is you start racing at sunrise and the winner is whoever has done the most laps by sundown.  There are individual and team categories.  Definitely give the website a look if you're interested!

Where?

The TTs start at the base of Picacho Peak. Take I-10 to exit 219 (Picacho Peak). Note: The parking area used in the past is no longer available. Registration and parking is now north of the new travel center and the start line is about 1/4 mile south of the Dairy Queen on the east frontage road.

When?

June 15, 2008. July 6, 2008. July 27, 2008 Registration is from 5:30-6:30 am. First rider off at 7:00am.

The July 6 date will include an open 40K Team Trial Trial. Teams of 4 riders (or 3). The clock stops when the 3rd rider of the team crosses the finish line. Registration price applies per person on the team.

How Much?

$15 registration. Juniors $2. One day licenses $10.

Prize List

Bragging rights only. Series champions win a t-shirt. The Lerua's TT Series combines with the Tucson Criterium Series to form the Tucson Championship series. Combined point totals from the two series add up to a trip to Junipine Resort in Sedona for the top male and female.

Preregistration

Yes, preregistration is available. We'll do in-person preregistration the night before each race from 6-8 pm at Lerua's Mexican Restaurant, 2005 E Broadway Blvd, Tucson. Sorry, no mail in preregistration this year.

Categories

We'll run all categories listed as eligible for state championships (Juniors by age, Seniors by category, Masters in 5 year increments). We also have a fixed gear category (separated by gender only) and a mountain bike category (also gender only). Recumbents (faired and unfaired) welcome. High schoolers can enter to win a High School Champion trophy. Contact Don Melhado for details.
You must ride at least two of the three TTs to win the points series. Points are accrued per category/per distance so sign up for all races in the same category/distance.

Anything Else?

The course closes when the first rider is off. Any rider warming up on the course after the race starts will be disqualified. No exceptions. Your day will be over.

Results

Results will be posted at the start after all riders have finished and will be official 15 minutes after posting. We'll try to post 20k results early, but no guarantees. Results will also be available here at saguarovelo.org by noon the next business day after the TT.
